TAFE from Year 10

You can start TAFE before you finish school

Tropical North Queensland (TNQ) TAFE has a long history of providing Vocational Education Training in North Queensland. The experienced industry teachers work closely with the Department of Education, Training and Employment and the schools in our region to provide students with options to help them achieve their training and career goals.

At TAFE, there are opportunities for students who want to begin their training before they complete their schooling, including TAFESEC, SchoolTech and MarineTech.

TAFESEC programs provide training to Year 11 students (and some Year 10 and Year 12 students) which leads to recognised qualifications and can be credited towards traineeships, apprenticeships, higher level qualifications or university.

Through SchoolTech and MarineTech students study their Queensland Certificate of Education (QCE) while gaining valuable certificate-level training and work experience. Students enrol with Woree State High School and study at TNQ TAFE. MarineTech students also attend the Great Barrier Reef International Marine College.

TNQ TAFE can also provide a pathway to university, with some programs offering credit toward bachelor degrees.
