Families as First Teachers

Families are an important part of the teaching and learning team

The first five years of a child’s life are very important learning years. Children, before they ever see a school or a teacher, learn from their families.

Families as First Teachers (FAFT) is a program developed in Far North Queensland which encourages families to work with schools to develop the reading and writing skills of young children.

Through FAFT, a link is built between home and school.  Barriers break down and the transition into school becomes a much smoother one for the children.
