A message from our Regional Director

From crayons to careers the Department of Education Training and Employment (DETE) staff in Far North Queensland are committed to creating the best outcomes for our children in a world-class learning environment.

As a parent, teacher, former principal and now regional director my goal is to see young people finish 13 years of education with real life opportunities.

A good start is important – research shows investing resources and energy into children’s early years when their brains are developing rapidly will bring lifelong benefits to them and the whole community.

You may have already noticed we’re doing more in this area – we now have more than 220 early childhood centres in the Far North.

At school you will increasingly hear about our Great Results Guarantee, that is, every Queensland state school student will either:

–        achieve the National Minimum Standard for literacy and numeracy for their year level; or

–        have an evidence-based plan, developed by the school, in place to address their specific learning needs.

I believe giving young people the best start in life through numeracy and literacy is the way to build a career whether it’s going onto a training organisations, university, or a job.

If you’d like to know more about what opportunities are available in our Kindergarten’s, schools or through training I encourage you to browse through our website or feel free to contact any of our 220 (and growing!) early childhood centres or 100 state schools here in the Far North.
